Smidspad (Tilburg) (English)

Smidspad.jpg

In the cadastral map of 1832 the Smidspad is still included as an unnamed sand road. On 8 October 1881 the city council determined that it ran from the Veldhoven to the Goirkestraat, and on 24 November 1900 that the street ran from the tram station near the Wilhelminapark going north to the Goirkestraat. At this tram station the carriage house, workshops and offices of the tram from Tilburg to Waalwijk were situated. The section from the Tilburg railway station to Besoyen was opened on 13 July 1881, and later that same year it was extended to the Waalwijk harbour. After this tram route had been discontinued in 1937, the tram station was turned into a bar.
