Honors Programs

The honors program, a two-year English-taught program for Bachelor’s students on top of their regular program, was launched in 2008. Enrolment is subject to a minimum of 60 ECTS credits with an average grade of seven having been obtained in the first-year Bachelor’s program. A strong motivation is an additional requirement.

This on-top program, introducing students to other scientific disciplines, has a 24 ECTS course load. The program involves one additional course per semester and, hence, four courses in two years. These courses, which are exclusively open to honors students, are taught in evening hours in the students’ third and fourth years. Upon successful completion, a special certificate is added to the Bachelor’s degree certificate.

Alumni playing a role

The outreaching honors program, which prepares students to take on responsibility and make a significant contribution to society after graduation, was launched in 2010. This is a program for excellent students to gain practical and international knowledge and experience. Because of its unique and innovative character, the program received one-time funding from the Education Ministry. In 2017, the program was partly funded by donations from alumni, amongst others. In the publication celebrating the program’s five-year anniversary, former participant Jeffrey Gerrits characterized an “outreacher” as “someone who speaks up, takes action, carries on regardless of setback, is undaunted by what’s coming their way and can make a difference.”
